Brent Qvale heading to Texans after 6 years with Jets

After six seasons in New York, Brent Qvale is changing his scenery.

The veteran offensive tackle has agreed to sign with the Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson. Qvale had spent his entire career with the Jets after they signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska in 2014.

Primarily a backup, Qvale played in 63 games and made 15 starts for Gang Green. He started a career-high six games in 2017 and appeared in all 16 games in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

Qvale played in just three games in 2019 after beginning the year on injured reserve. He made a start against Buffalo in Week 17.

The 29-year-old swing tackle was also active on special teams in New York. He played anywhere from 16 percent to 27 percent of such snaps during his four full seasons.

Qvale was a serviceable depth piece for the Jets, but Gang Green is in the midst of an offensive line rebuild. With newcomers George Fant and Connor McGovern already on board and more newcomers surely on the way, expect the team to find more depth in free agency or the draft.
