Brennan Johnson first half hat-trick helps Nottingham Forest U23s on their way to 4-1 win over Ipswich Town

Brennan Johnson was back amongst the goals yet again, taking home the match ball as Nottingham Forest's Under-23s beat Ipswich Town 4-1 at Portman Road.

The young Trickies were rampant in Suffolk, scoring four before the break, with Johnson's opener, his first of a 20-minute hat-trick, the pick of the bunch as he curled a stunning free-kick into the far corner from 25 yards.

Will Swan also got on the scoresheet for Forest, being the quickest to react after Town keeper Harry Wright parried into the danger zone, before experienced Tom Adeyemi pulled back a mere consolation for the hosts.

'If players don't want to stay at Nottingham Forest they should just carry on the way they are doing - they'll be out the door'

It was no surprise that Jimmy Gilligan and Chris Cohen's side dominated the early phases, but Johnson's free-kick proved a catalyst to open the first half floodgates.

Ten minutes after the 17-year-old had found the net, he lodged his second entry for goal of the day as he struck Swan's knock-down first-time into the bottom corner from outside the area.

Johnson's third came from a textbook training ground set-piece, delicately placing his effort over everyone in the area, including the defender on the line, and into the far corner - but not before Swan's easy tap-in.

Ipswich's goal came just before the break as they quickly turned defence into attack with Adeyemi, who has 260 first team career appearances to his name, battled down the left before playing a quick give and go with Bailey Clements and forcing the ball home.

The Tractor Boys had a man sent off in the closing moments. Barry Cotter, already on a yellow card, committed a cynical foul on Jake Taylor and in frustration threw the ball away, giving the referee no option but to dismiss him.

Forest threatened to extend their lead during the second half, but four was enough for victory.

Why is there a Nottingham Forest season ticket in Barcelona's Nou Camp tunnel?
