Brendan Rodgers wears 'Celtic hat' as Leicester City boss dodges Rangers Invincible verdict

Brendan Rodgers sidestepped whether he would be happy for Steven Gerrard securing an unbeaten season with Rangers in the Premiership.

The Ibrox side are two games away from going a full league campaign without defeat, the first of those coming up against Celtic on Sunday.

The Leicester City boss has a good relationship with Gerrard after they worked together at Liverpool.

The former Celtic manager admitted the Light Blues were deserving champions this season, but insists his allegiances still lie with the Hoops as Rodgers refused to wish Gerrard well ahead of Rangers' quest of an unblemished league campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Listen, it would be very difficult for me to say with my Celtic hat on.

"Rangers deserved to win the league this year, I don't think there is any doubt about that.

"Consistently, they have been the best team in the league, they will probably be disappointed with the cups and how that has gone.

"The challenge for them this year was to win the league and stop Celtic from winning their 10th title and they have done that.

"So Steven will look to build on that in the summer and look to progress, where they go into the Champions League which is a huge challenge.

"And he will look to continue to win trophies because that is what Celtic and Rangers are about. Celtic and Rangers are about winning and winning in the best way you possibly can."

Rodgers talked up this weekend's derby despite it being called a 'dead rubber' in some quarters as he revealed he will sit down to watch the match if he can.

He added: "The Celtic and Rangers games are always special games.

"Unfortunately there have been no supporters because that's what really makes a difference and why it's such an iconic game throughout the world.

"They are never the best games, at times, from a football perspective but I've been involved in games like that.

"Certainly from the spectacle, the supporters and everything, they are really special games.

"I always find the time, when I can, if I can watch the game I will do."
