Brendan Rodgers to Barcelona addressed as Shaun Maloney tipped to be on the Nou Camp rescue ticket

Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers remains a long shot to become the next boss of Barcelona - despite a report linking him with the Nou Camp hotseat.

Ronald Koeman is still at the helm in Catalonia but his future looks increasingly uncertain following a limp 1-1 draw with Granada.

That has led to speculation on who could be in line to replace the club legend who is facing increased pressure from supporters and at boardroom level.

Spanish daily Sport describe Koeman's position as "weaker than ever" ahead of Thursday's pivotal showdown with Cadiz.

Rodgers earned a sensational link with Barcelona on Thursday but sources in Spain name Roberto Martinez, Xavi and Erik ten Hag as the leading three candidates if Joan Laporta pulls the trigger.

A move for the Belgium boss is gathering momentum but he also has his sights on securing World Cup glory with Belgium next year.

His trusted lieutenant Thierry Henry has just penned a new deal with the Red Devils and Shaun Maloney remains locked in alongside his former Wigan boss.

Rodgers - a 50/1 shot with the bookies - has enhanced his reputation with Leicester on the back of his trophy laden stint with Celtic.

The Irishman has narrowly missed out on a top four finish in each of the last two seasons but he lifted the FA Cup after a stunning win over Chelsea.

Rodgers has been strongly linked with Arsenal and Tottenham due to his exploits at the King Power Stadium.
