Brendan Rodgers tipped for Manchester City job as Chris Sutton points to the Celtic trophy record that beats Pochettino

Chris Sutton insists Brendan Rodgers should be first in line for the Manchester City job if there's a change in the dugout in the summer.

Pep Guardiola's contract expires at the end of the season and he's yet to agree a new deal at the Etihad.

That's led to speculation that the former Barcelona boss will leave, and after two Premier League titles he'll leave some big shoes to fill.

Mauricio Pochettino has been tipped as the most likely replacement after his achievements at Tottenham.

However, Sutton believes that lifting seven trophies on the spin with Celtic means Rodgers should be at the top of the shortlist.

He said on BBC 606: "You'd have Brendan in front of Pochettino. Brendan's won trophies.

"Who wants potential? You want winners, Brendan's a winner!

"I'd have Brendan Rodgers."

Rodgers has taken Leicester to within a point of the Premier League summit, with a clash against Wolves to come on Sunday.

He guided the Foxes to fifth in his first full season, having won back-to-back domestic trebles with Celtic.

Rodgers left midway through the 2018-19 campaign, having already secured the Betfred Cup.
