Brendan Rodgers shares how Kieran Tierney really feels about returning to Celtic

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says Kieran Tierney is excited to be returning to the club this summer.

The left-back has agreed a pre-contract to rejoin the Parkhead outfit ahead of the summer transfer window.

Rodgers, who helped catalyse Tierney's record-breaking switch to Arsenal in 2019, was asked on Tuesday afternoon whether the defender is excited to be coming back to Glasgow's east end: "I know he will be," replied the Celtic manager.

"I haven't spoken to him a lot of late. We've exchanged messages and stuff, but I know his love of the club and excitement to come back here.

"So yes, I'm sure he's champing at the bit to get back."

Tierney made 170 appearances during his initial Celtic spell. He was a key figure in the club's Treble Treble success.

Although his time at the Emirates Arena has been somewhat ravaged by injury, he has still played 142 times for Arsenal and will leave with the utmost respect of the club's supporters this summer.

Elsewhere, Rodgers has confirmed that Daizen Maeda and Cameron Carter-Vickers will be absent for Celtic's trip to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Wednesday evening, with Alistair Johnston returning to the ranks: "Like I said last week, Cam [Carter-Vickers] would miss this game but will be okay for the weekend," quipped the Celtic boss.

"Ali Johnston [is] back.

"Daizen, while recovering, he just came in this morning with a little niggle. He trained but we're keeping here just go get him treatment and make sure he's okay for the weekend and the following week."
