Brendan Rodgers sets Leicester City target for Manchester United game

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers does not believe the outcome of this weekend's clash against Manchester United will be the true measure of his side.

That's despite the game being billed as crucial to both side's hopes of achieving European football qualification, with Leicester currently riding high in third place in the Premier League. United, meanwhile, have dropped points in their last three games.

It's led to some dubbing the Foxes as favourites, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in desperate need of a result to stem the flow of bad results that came before the international break.

Rodgers, however, whose side have eight points to United's five from the first four games, has played down expectations at his latest press conference.

"It’s not a barometer for our ambition — our ambition is there," he said on the trip to Old Trafford.

"It’s a long season. I think we are really looking forward to a game against a top class team of a very high standard players at a great area.

"We’re very keen to go there and put on a good performance that can get us a good result, so the players are looking forward to a very good game."

Leicester haven't won at Old Trafford since January 1998 and Rodgers maintained that United will still pose a huge threat.

He also praised Solskjaer for the job he's done since taking over from Jose Mourinho in December last year.

"It’s always a difficult place to go," added the former Liverpool boss.

"I’ve been there with a few teams and won and lost.

"They will always have quality, maybe some of the results that they’ve had says otherwise. It’s still a difficult place and you have to go and earn your right to win there.

"I repeat that Ole has come in and done a great job and stabilised everything. They didn’t end the season how they might have liked but you only have to look at the squad to see the quality that is there."
