Brendan Rodgers sets Celtic Euro ambition and says 'you only need to see what West Ham achieved'

Brendan Rodgers has set a high bar in Europe and says Celtic only need to look at West Ham and what they achieved this season.

The Hammers went all the way in the Europa Conference League and lifted the third tier competition trophy following victory over Fiorentina in the final. Jarrod Bowen was the hero as his last-gasp strike sparked wild scenes in the stands, on the park and on the touchline with David Moyes, his staff and the substitutes.

The previous year the English Premier League side reached the Europa League semi-finals before losing out to Frankfurt - who went on and lifted the trophy after defeating Rangers in the final on penalties.

Champions League group stage football is heading for Parkhead once again this campaign with Rodgers determined to make a splash on the European stage. Watching West Ham achieve success has him setting the same standards and ambitions for his Celtic team.

He said: “You only need to see what West Ham achieved this season.

"You always need to have that level of ambition. We have set that ambition.

“Coming back here, I think there’s a great level of expectation on myself, purely because of what I achieved before and obviously how I left.

“I can deal with that, there’s no problem. That’s what I thrive on.”
