Brendan Rodgers sends warning to Man Utd over James Maddison transfer

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has dealt Manchester United a transfer blow by insisting no key players will leave the club in January.

United had been rumoured to be weighing up a big-money offer for James Maddison, who has impressed for the Foxes this season with nine goals and three assists in all competitions.

Other Leicester stars such as defender Ben Chilwell and midfielder Wilfred Ndidi have also been linked with moves, but Rodgers said there is no chance any of their best players will be allowed to move on.

Speaking ahead of Leicester's FA Cup tie against Wigan on Saturday, Rodgers said: "Nobody will leave here that we don't want to go. I think we've had a couple of enquiries in terms of loans and for some of our younger players.

"But the players that are always talked about and mentioned, there will be nobody going."

Rodgers also expects little activity in terms in incomings at the King Power Stadium, and appears to be confident his squad are good enough to continue their stunning form into the second half of the season.

He added: "We know if we're going to be playing European football next season then we're going to need the depth but January is a very difficult month.

"I think we'll see if we can improve the squad and if we don't then we'll have to wait until the summer but as I've said before we're in a really good place and we don't want to stockpile. They have to be players that are going to improve the squad."

Despite having a minor wobble in the Premier League during December when they went three games without a win, the Foxes have bounced back with victories over West Ham and Newcastle and remain second in the table, one point above Manchester City .
