Brendan Rodgers sends heartfelt title message to Liverpool fans, Jurgen Klopp and 'fantastic' FSG

Ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has sent a heartfelt message of congratulations to his successor in the Anfield dugout.

Jurgen Klopp replaced the now Leicester City manager in October 2015 when Rodgers was sacked.

The Northern Irishman had gone close to ending Liverpool's Premier League title drought in 2014 but narrowly missed out to Manchester City that year, before things began to unravel.

But he heaped praise on Klopp, as well as Jordan Henderson, the man he named as Liverpool captain to replace the outgoing Steven Gerrard in July 2015.

Rodgers said: "Having witnessed it first hand, it’s an incredible moment in their history.

"Having felt it while I was there, the desire for it. I’m delighted for Jurgen, and in particular these last few years going so close.

"I’m delighted for Jordan Henderson, and for the supporters.

"Wherever you travel in the world as Liverpool manager, they are there in their thousands.

"When the time is right, the players will be able to celebrate with the supporters."

Rodgers also had praise for the Reds' owners, Fenway Sports Group, who were the people who decided he should become Liverpool boss at the age of 39, in 2012.

He added: "I’m pleased for the owners too. They came into it new, they’re fantastic owners.

"I text Jurgen last night, the owners and Jordan who I know very well."
