Brendan Rodgers salutes Neil Lennon's 'unique' Celtic achievement as he rounds on dismissive Premier League attitude

Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has saluted Parkhead successor Neil Lennon for finally completing the club's quadruple Treble.

It took 120 minutes of football and a penalty shootout to see off Hearts in Sunday's Scottish Cup Final but Kristoffer Ajer's winning spot-kick sealed the outstanding trophy of the 2019-20 season.

Despite being criticised in some quarters of the Hoops support for abruptly leaving the club, Rodgers has been supportive of Lennon even during the recent period that saw his position come under immense scrutiny during a run of two wins in 12 matches.

Lennon did complete the treble Treble in 2018-19 by securing the Scottish Cup - also against Hearts - but the Premiership title from that season was by his own admission Rodgers' work, as was the Betfred Cup win two months before his departure to Leicester City.

But the current Parkhead boss did it all himself this time and Rodgers described the achievement as "unique" after Lennon became the first person to complete a sweep of Scottish honours as a player and a manager.

Rodgers told Sky Sports: "People sometimes down here think it’s easy for Celtic or Rangers to win games but there’s not too many teams who can go out with the pressure you have at Celtic to win every game.

"To then go and win 12 consecutive trophies? It will never be done again I’m pretty sure. It typifies the mentality of the team.

"I was so happy that they did it and obviously of course, for Neil.

"To be the first manager in Scotland to have won a treble both as a player and as a manager, puts him in a unique bracket."
