Brendan Rodgers 'saddened' by Celtic exit for Neil Lennon as he backs John Kennedy to bring stability

Regretful Brendan Rodgers has opened up on his sadness in seeing Neil Lennon leave Celtic, claiming the Irishman is a legend whose legacy will not be tarnished by a bad season.

Lennon replaced the Leicester City boss in February 2019 after he departed for the Premier League.

He completed Rodgers' work that season by getting the team over the finishing line in the league and winning the Scottish Cup to achieve a Treble treble.

And the Foxes boss admits he's been upset to see his old mate lose his job at Parkhead.

He said: "I'm saddened when any manager loses their job, but in particular someone I can call a friend.

"It's a tough day for him and when it all settles down, he's a legend of the club and his legacy there will be in tact forever."

Rodgers also spoke supportively of John Kennedy, who has taken over as caretaker manager until a replacement is found.

He said: "In terms of John (Kennedy, Celtic caretaker), I knew his knowledge of the game.

"He moved into coaching and knows Celtic, he's been a coach, a scout.

"He's very loyal, very supportive, very hard-working, he knows the demands of the club. He's a great pair of hands to go in there and stabilise the club."
