Brendan Rodgers rules out Arsenal job as former Celtic boss commits future to Leicester

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed claims he will jump ship to Arsenal.

The former Celtic manager is on the Gunners' shortlist for the vacant post after the sacking of Unai Emery.

But when asked if he was in it for the long haul with the Foxes, he said: “Yeah very much so. I left a club eight and a half months ago and that was a change I made to come to a club with ambition.

“And it is a huge challenge here to break into the top six. I’ve loved every minute since I’ve come here. We’ve got work to do but I’m excited.

“My focus is very much here with Leicester. The club has been first class with me. The project feels very exciting with a lot of development ahead. So my concentration is very much with Leicester. Arsenal probably have a list of 10 names."

Rodgers is understood to have a £14 million release clause in his Leicester contract.

But he said: “There are probably clauses in most managers' contracts. It's all hypothetical.”

Rodgers’ comments made it a double celebration for Leicester after they came from behind with Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho both scoring, the latter dramatically in the last minute with VAR influencing.

It was Iheanacho’s first league goal in 14 months and he famously scored the first goal awarded by VAR in England during the 2018 FA Cup win over 2018.

He said: "You can call me Mr VAR. I knew it was a goal. I was onside.”

Rodgers added: “This was Kelechi’s turn. I think you saw afterwards that everyone is so happy for him. He’s such a good boy. We have to give the officials and VAR congratulations today.”
