Brendan Rodgers reveals Celtic exit left family 'distraught' as former boss claims he's been shunned for jumping ship

Former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that his Hoops-mad family were left reeling at the moment he left Parkhead.

The Rodgers clan were in attendance when the Northern Irishman was unveiled at Celtic Park in May 2016, with his cousin in particular making a 13-hour round trip from County Antrim.

But the manager's departure to Leicester City is still so raw that some have still not spoken to him.

Rodgers won back-to-back trebles for Celtic and sealed a third League Cup before leaving for the English Premier League in February last year.

He stands by that decision and claims theres no room for sentimentality in football.

Speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast, Rodgers said: "When you have to make decisions, you have to be unsentimental.

"I had family who were just distraught I left Celtic, just couldn't believe it.

"I have relations that haven't spoken to me since the day I left Celtic.

"Because it meant so much to them and if you carry on like that too much you'll never do anything.

"But I had some unforgettable memories at Celtic that will live with me for a lifetime, that I still think about now and I then came into my next experience.

"For me, I left school with nothing. No qualifications, no nothing - my life has been based on experiences, hence the reason why I look for the experiences.

"And this, I felt, from a sporting perspective was going to be the next good experience."
