Brendan Rodgers responds to Philippe Coutinho rumours and admits transfer 'difficulty'

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has shut down rumours linking Philippe Coutinho with a Leicester City switch.

It has long been rumoured the former Reds playmaker will make his departure from Barcelona this summer, with a return to England being hotly tipped.

Rodgers, who took over as the Foxes boss last year, has claimed to be interested in reuniting with his former player.

But the Northern Irishman has since explained the 27-year-old would be out of his price range.

Speaking with TV presenter Eamonn Holmes on his podcast  Eamonn and the Gaffers,  as cited here, he admitted: “I’ve seen lots of speculation around young Phil, I don’t think…

"Philippe’s a wonderful player, a brilliant talent, but he would be someone who is way out of our price bracket."

Coutinho is currently on loan at Bayern Munich but has reportedly failed to persuade the Bundesliga champions to take him on a permanent deal.

Rodgers added: "In terms of transfers, it’s something that we’re tentatively looking at.

“The market I feel is going to be very difficult this year, this coming summer.

“It’s one where we have discussions but there’s certainly nothing concrete at this stage.”
