Brendan Rodgers provides Leicester City and Jamie Vardy injury update ahead of Arsenal clash

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has provided a fitness update ahead of his side's clash with Arsenal.

The Gunners and the Foxes go head-to-head on Sunday evening and both sides face a quick turnaround after competing in the Europa League on Thursday.

Arsenal claimed a hard-fought win over Rapid Wien in the Austrian capital, while Leicester defeated Zorya 3-0 at home.

Rodgers' men were without Jamie Vardy for that one, and indeed last weekend's Premier League defeat to Aston Villa.

And they could be without him for the clash with Arsenal, too, while Demarai Gray and Islam Slimani will be in contention, according to Rodgers.

"Slim (Islam Slimani) will come back into the squad," the Foxes boss said in his pre-match press conference.

"Demarai [Gray] will be back and then we’ll see where Jamie's at. He’ll train with the squad on Friday.

"We felt he would miss two games, so he’s worked well with the medical team over the course of the week.

"Hopefully, he comes through that over the next 48 hours and is available for the squad."

Meanwhile, Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi, Daniel Amartey and Caglar Soyuncu all remain out with injury.

Speaking about the game against the Gunners, Rodgers added: "It’s what we want.

"These types of games and the consecutive games, that’s what builds your robustness and your mentality. Obviously, for young players, that’s what we want.

"You come in, you play well, you get a good result, but that’s quickly forgotten, you get onto your next game.

"We’ll look to design a plan over these next number of days in order to go into the game against Arsenal and look to get a victory."
