Brendan Rodgers on what the absence of Leeds United's 'notorious' Elland Road atmosphere means

Brendan Rodgers believes Leeds United are missing the impact of their fans as he prepares to take his Leicester City side to Elland Road.

The Foxes travel to West Yorkshire for a Monday night Premier League clash following the news that England is about to enter a second national lockdown, which has ended any hopes of fans returning to stadiums in any capacity until 2021 at the earliest.

That means matches at Elland Road will continue to be played behind-closed-doors, as they have been since the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic first gripped the country back in March.

Speaking ahead of Leicester's trip to face Marcelo Bielsa's side, Rodgers reflected on the impact of empty stadiums continues to have on the Premier League.

"It does change it, but it changes it home and away for both teams," he said. "For some teams playing with no fans is a huge advantage because there's no pressure. Other teams will need the supporters. We miss our supporters, especially at home, but it's the situation that everyone is in.

"Leeds of course is notoriously a very tough place to go and of course if they had the backing of the supporters that would make it really difficult. But we know it's going to be a really difficult game either way and we have to be ready for that."

The Foxes are looking for a second consecutive Premier League win following last weekend's 1-0 victory at Arsenal, but come up against a Leeds side that put in a head-turning performance last time out when they won 3-0 at previously undefeated Aston Villa.

Leeds have picked up 10 points from their first six games back in the top flight and Rodgers is among those praising how the Whites have begun life back in the big time.

"You see the level that play at, you see the quality that they have," he continued. "You see the focus they have in the game, the mobility and the team, the rotation in the team, so they are playing at a really, really high level.

"For us of course we need to really concentrate but we also know there's a going to be a lot of space in the game for us and we've got players that we hope can exploit that."
