Brendan Rodgers offers intriguing solution to key Celtic squad issue

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says Daizen Maeda could play on the right-hand side, as he opened up about the lopsided nature of his frontline.

The Bhoys have four recognised left-wingers in Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Sebastian Tounekti, Jota, and, although he has predominantly been used as a central striker this season, Daizen Maeda.

On the opposite side, the sole natural right-wing options Rodgers has come in the form of Yang Hyun-jun and James Forrest.

Asked about the issue in his Friday press conference, the Celtic manager admitted he could play Maeda on the right.

He said: "I think we have options. I think Daizen can play there, I don't think there's any doubt about that. I can use that as a possibility for sure.

"Where he's played most of his career at Celtic has been on the left side or through the middle but naturally, on the sides is probably where he's best. I wouldn't rule that out.

"It was an area we wanted to reinforce, we weren't able to do it and I have to try and manage and find a way to juggle the balance in the team to still make us as penetrative and as attacking as we possibly can so that's what I'm looking at."

Celtic take on Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

They go into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw with Crvena zvezda in Belgrade in the Europa League on Wednesday evening.

It is the first of three consecutive home matches for Rodgers' men.
