Celtic must offer Brendan Rodgers a new contract - he 'deserves' it.
That's the viewpoint of former Celts player Stiliyan Petrov.
The Northern Irishman's contract expires at the Scottish Premiership champions at the end of this season.
So far, no deal has been put down on the table by the club's board for Rodgers to consider, as he revealed during his fiery press conference last Friday.
Speculation over his future has grown rife after he voiced his concerns about the club's lack of transfer business during the recent window.
However, Petrov would like to see a resolution to the situation sooner rather than later.
"I believe Brendan Rodgers deserves that," Petrov said at the draw for the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup. "I think he's a very good, strong coach who knows what he wants.
"He's proven around the world how good he is as a manager. So he has the right to make demands and to ask for players, for the club spending money.
"Obviously, there's a risk with that, but I believe a strong manager should do that. And you know, having a strong manager, the club should be proud, the fans should be proud, because that means that this manager thinks the best of the club.
"And when you have a man like Brendan Rodgers demanding for more quality, better players, depth of the squad, this is something that every big team does. I believe that he's got the right to do that.
"Listen, in football, you know what, people say so many things. I want to stay, I don't want to stay. The only good thing for Brendan Rodgers is he's a proven manager, he's a proven coach.
"He can get results, he gets his teams to play in a certain way. So managers like that will always have interest from different places, different clubs and different countries.
"But having Brendan Rodgers here at this present moment is great and I hope that will continue."
