Brendan Rodgers myth finally brutally busted by Liverpool's seven

So let's put this Crystal Palace myth to bed then, shall we?

Pre-match, there had been talk, as there always is, of this team and this venue being something of a stern test for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. A banana skin, if you like.

Conventional wisdom somehow still dictates that Palace are the perennial thorn in the side; the bogey-team who force the Reds to come a cropper.

The reality, however, is far different.

Liverpool have now won seven successive games against this opponent. Seven is the salient figure too, given how they reached it with this remarkable performance.

There will surely not be a better team display this season.

In truth, the talk of Palace's reputation against Liverpool is built on a second-half collapse from a Brendan Rodgers team over six-and-a-half years ago.

Everyone remembers it, but those wounds have long since healed for a fanbase who laid those ghosts to rest when the title was won last season.

Only Jordan Henderson remains from that squad and he wasn't even involved on that dark Monday night in May 2014.

Who was your LFC MOTM against Palace? Vote in our quick poll.

No, that result can and will no longer be used as guidance whenever these two teams lock horns here or anywhere else, in fact.

The biggest victory of Klopp's tenure in the Premier League will now be the reference point whenever Liverpool meet Crystal Palace.

And to the rest of the division, after going three points clear with a decisive win in the top-of-the-table clash with Tottenham on Wednesday, the Reds flexed their considerable muscle in the capital.

It was a message of crystal clear clarity for anyone who needed it - the champions are still the team to beat.

Finish above them and you will be kings.

That, though, will be the tallest of orders.
