Brendan Rodgers makes Everton top six claim after Leicester City 'disappointment'

Brendan Rodgers believes Everton have 'outstanding players and a 'world class manager' and should be challenging for the top six.

Rodgers brings his Leicester City side to Goodison Park on Wednesday night as both sides look to continue their impressive form.

Everton secured their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Goodison on Sunday night.

In the Premier League, Carlo Ancelotti and his team sit sixth in the table having taken 16 points and conceded only four goals in their last seven league games.

Leicester booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup at the weekend and are third in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Manchester United.

“They’re definitely a team that will challenge. They’ve had big investment in the team so they would be expecting to challenge,” the Leicester boss said when asked about Everton.

“They have outstanding players and a world class manager. It’s the one disappointing game. We arrive in this game in a totally different moment.

“The energy is good, we’re playing how we want to. We conceded two poor goals from our perspective. Hopefully our performance level will be better on Wednesday.”

The former Liverpool and Celtic manager also revealed his side have no fresh injury concerns ahead tomorrow’s game.

Rodgers revealed last week City will be without Jamie Vardy while Dennis Praet remains on the sidelines with skipper Wes Morgan .

“(Jamie’s) a little bit sore as you would expect,” Rodgers told the media at his pre-match press conference via Leicester Live.

“(There are no injuries) other than the boys who have been out, so Vards, Dennis Praet, and Wes Morgan. Everyone else is coming through really well.”

Before he continued: “I’m thankful that with all the injuries we’ve had, that they are back and available and getting game-time.

“They all know they are required. The same 11 won’t play in every game between now and the end of the season.

“I communicate with the guys on the outside so they know exactly where they are, and they always know they are close to playing. They’ve just got to be ready.

“I’d much rather have it that way, than players injured. To have the quality we have makes me really happy.”
