Brendan Rodgers leaning on Celtic experiences as he targets Europa League with Leicester City

Brendan Rodgers will use his experience at Celtic to ensure Leicester City aren't caught cold by potential Europa League qualifiers.

The Foxes remain in the hunt for a European place that would leave them facing an early start to their season with a tricky trip abroad.

Rodgers guided Celtic through the Champions League qualifying minefield in two of his three attempts and well knows the hazards of squaring off against a side who are already up to speed in their domestic campaign.

The Hoops prevailed against an Astana side over 20 games into their season in 2017, surviving a second-leg scare in Kazakhstan.

But Rodgers is certain his side will be prepared - if they can seal seventh place in the Premier League.

“It’s all factored in,” the Leicester boss said.

“(An early start) won’t affect us so much because if you start training at the end of June or beginning of July, you can still arrive after three-and-half weeks in a good place physically.

“You’re never going to be perfect. That’s something I’ve learned from experience with Champions League qualification games and Europa League (with Celtic ), you’re never in your best place physically.

“You just hope that you’re not playing teams that are in season.

“Some of these teams that are in qualification, they’re in season. I remember playing Astana, they were 22 games into their season.

“If you play Rosenborg, they’re well into their season, so they’ve got a really good level of fitness.

“We’ll be physically prepared as can be, if that is a possibility.”
