Brendan Rodgers issues four-word response to Chelsea approaching over Wesley Fofana transfer

Brendan Rodgers has insisted he knows nothing about Chelsea allegedly making contact over a move for Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana.

According to Foot Mercato, the Blues have made direct contact with the 20-year-old defender's representatives to discuss a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Fofana signed for the Foxes just over 13 months ago, arriving for £31.5million from Saint-Etienne and the Frenchman massively impressed throughout his debut campaign in the Premier League, but has been injured for the start of this term after suffering a fibula fracture in pre-season.

The Leicester star still has just under four years remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium, but Chelsea are now said to be interested in making a move for his services.

However, Rodgers, when asked about it in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Foxes' clash with the Blues on Saturday afternoon, issued an honest four-word response to the rumours.

Asked if he knew anything about Chelsea making an approach for Fofana, the Leicester boss said: "No, not at all."

Fofana recently admitted in a Twitter Spaces session hosted by ActuFoot that Chelsea are among the teams he one day dreams of representing.

“There is Marseille, Real Madrid, Barcelona," he said. “In the Premier League, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City… but you have to work to achieve your dreams. Through work, you can succeed in it all.”

Rodgers, though, was asked about these comments, as well as Kasper Schmeichel saying he wants to leave before he retires, and played down the speculation.

"I think speculation an gossip is natural and supporters will have seen that increase," the former Liverpool manager said.

"The players you are talking about, Kasper has been such a great servant for the club, he has been sensational for the club. I have not got any question marks over his mentality.

"I have not seen either of the interviews. Wesley has made great strides. Every player will want to be at the highest level, but it does not mean they are thinking about leaving here to do that.

"We have won silverware and want to see if we can win more. Wesley is committed to here and we cannot wait to have him back. Kasper is committed here."

Fofana makes sense for Chelsea. The French defender has been so impressive and at just 20-years-old, his best years are still ahead of him.

Thomas Tuchel could also be set to lose two of his star defenders at the end of the season - with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both seeing their contracts at Stamford Bridge expire next summer.

Leicester, though, could be set to ask for an extortionate fee for Fofana, considering they paid £31.5million for him a year ago and he has come on leaps and bounds since then.
