Brendan Rodgers is a toxic Celtic figure and his Rangers respect opinion is worthless - Hotline

Just when you thought a good old gua rd of honour furore couldn't get any more bitter - Brendan Rodgers enters the fray.

The former Celtic boss believes his old club should show humility and class by providing a pre-match tribute to the new champions and it's only served to add fuel on the fire.

Stevie Delaney, St Andrews , said: "Rodgers should keep his nose out of Celtic's affairs. If he hadn't walked away Rangers would be refusing to give us a guard of honour."

Jake Curley, emailed: "If Celtic don’t applaud Rangers onto the field at Parkhead then we should applaud them before we go on for pushing us so close in such a vital season."

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: "Many Celtic fans don't want Rangers to receive a guard of honour as Rangers didn't do it for Celtic. "There happens to be a huge difference, the police requested Rangers not to do it in fear of crowd trouble, this time there's no crowd or police stopping it."

Paul Egan, Kilsyth, said: "If anyone should be keeping their opinions on the guard of honour to themselves then it's Rodgers.

"He bailed out on us and is a toxic figure amongst a support which once worshipped him so he should so some class and humility by keeping his oar out of something which is none of his business."

Craig Walker, Shettleston, said: "It's nonsense for Celtic to be expected to give Rangers and guard of honour and Rodgers knows better. He is putting his tuppence in where it's not wanted and it will do nothing to heal the wounds of the way he left us in the lurch. The Old Firm is so huge because of the intense rivalry, any guard of honour would mean nothing."

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "I see Hotline caller George Wilson is dreaming again by saying Rangers should be awarded a 3-0 win in the Glasgow derby. We totally outclassed them at Ibrox up until the joke red card helped them to a fluke win where they didn't manage a shot on goal. To truly beat Celtic to a title you have to beat us and our fans, their tainted training game title will be taken back next season."

Jack Armstrong, Bathgate, said: "Hotline caller John Bruce thinks Celtic are now irrelevant because his new club won their first major trophy but where has he been for the past twenty years. Celtic have won 15 league titles and an unprecedented quadruple, reached a European final and had a 69 game unbeaten run. Let me assure him that Celtic will never be irrelevant."

Robert Pender, emailed: "The supporters who gathered at Ibrox were wrong and the players going to the gates was wrong but the Scottish Government blaming the supporters for rise in Covid is a disgrace

"It takes 10-12 days for virus to incubate so how can they say nine days later that supporters who gathered have gone down with virus? The timescale does not add up."

Kevin Kean, Inchinnan, said: "It's quite astonishing that Steven Gerrard is now the longest serving manager in the Premiership and does it mean the quality of manager is lacking or is it down to chairmen who panic. They have one eye on the likely return of crowds next season which means a resurgence of fans through the turnstiles and they don't want to miss out."

Lance Little, Erskine, said: "I had to laugh at the regular Hotline caller from Sussex who had the brass neck to say his team outclass Celtic on and off the park. It's a pity the supporters don't have any. If class is putting lives at stake, urinating in public, smashing memorials and generally putting public safety at risk then I despair.

"They would struggle to see class if it was in front of them with a flashing light saying, 'this is class', it's been a shocking and embarrassing reaction to winning a league."

And finally.

John Robb, Kirkcaldy, said: "What about Davie Robertson for the vacant Aberdeen job? It couldn't be any tougher than his last position at Real Kashmir FC, the only drawback would be size of the swear box."
