Brendan Rodgers in Newcastle snub as former Celtic boss forces Steve Bruce successor rethink

Brendan Rodgers has firmly ruled himself out of the running to replace Steve Bruce at Newcastle.

And the ex- Celtic boss says he won't be leaving Leicester until they decide to move him on.

The Magpies have been taken over by a consortium in Saudi Arabia and are widely reported to be looking for a new manager.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been linked but reports in England suggested that Rodgers, who has revived his career in England since leaving Celtic, is their main target.

He has a £15m buyout clause in his contract and it was claimed Newcastle's new owners were happy to pay that.

Rodgers was made 2/1 favourite with bookies earlier this week but speculation has since cooled.

And odds are expected to tumble further as Rodgers said at his press conference he has no intention of taking the job.

When asked if he was staying at Leicester, Rodgers said: "100 per cent. I have a contract until 2025 and I absolutely love being here.

"I'm very fortunate, I've got a great chief executive, a director of football I'm very close with and a group of players I enjoy working with.

"As long as they don't want to move me, I'm very happy being here.

"I've seen all the reports and it doesn't help anyone, particularly Newcastle and Steve.

"It's the type of week I don't like in the modern game. All the managers work hard to do the best for our teams. All the speculation and gossip and destabilise supporters and players.

"It doesn't benefit anyone at all. For me, thankfully, I've been in the game long enough to just focus on my role and I'm very happy to do that."
