Brendan Rodgers hopes Jurgen Klopp does not experience same Liverpool result

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is fearful that Jurgen Klopp could go through a similar experience to what he faced during his time at Anfield.

The ex- Reds boss almost guided the club to the Premier League title in 2014, only to fall agonisingly short, finishing two points behind winners Manchester City in second place.

Six years later and Liverpool are fighting for the title once again, only this time they appear to be runaway winners with a 25-point lead.

However, the suspension caused by the coronavirus pandemic has led to the season been halted, delaying Liverpool’s long-awaited celebrations.

Rodgers says his old club are fully deserving of the title, and it would be a “shame” if they were to be denied the trophy after waiting for 30 years since their last league triumph.

“They've clearly been consistently the best team,” said Rodgers on the ‘Eamonn and the Gaffers’ podcast.

“The level that they've been playing at, the quality - they’ve just been absolutely fantastic.

“So it would be an absolute shame if they don't get the chance to to lift the title.

“They’ve been waiting so, so long - they're deserving of it. But Jurgen will be like everyone, hoping that we can get back playing but obviously in a safe environment.

“It just wasn't to be for us and of course you have moments where you think back to that season.

"We were so close, and it would have been brilliant for us to have done it. But it wasn't to be so you just have to to move on.”
