Brendan Rodgers hands Newcastle United Hamza Choudhury boost with latest transfer comments

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is confident the Foxes will sign an attacking midfielder before Monday's 11pm transfer deadline.

Rodgers is keen to sign an attacking midfielder to fill the gap left by the injury to Dennis Praet, who is out until April.

Newcastle are keen to sign Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury on a loan deal until the end of the season and while Rodgers has told United boss Steve Bruce he is open to the deal, it is contingent on Leicester signing midfield cover themselves.

Asked if he had confidence of welcoming a new face to the club before Monday night, Rodgers replied: “Yes. It’ll be good for the team, we have a gap there so the club will work hard at looking to get someone in.

"Our idea is to get a midfield player. If we can do that, then great.”

Leicester have been linked with Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles but there is believed to be reluctance from the Gunners to allow the England international to join a direct rival.

The Foxes are also thought to be keen on a deal for Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, a player Rodgers knows well from his days as Chelsea's Academy boss.

When asked about the Hornets midfielder, Rodgers said: “I know Nathaniel from my time working with him at Chelsea, but I know lots of players and there are a number of players that we’re looking at.”
