Brendan Rodgers has pulled back the curtain on some of the tactical inspiration behind his match-winning formula at Eland Road.
The Leicester City boss spoke to the media after Monday’s match and shed some light on how he had gone about masterminding the 4-1 win.
Rodgers not only oversaw a resounding 4-1 victory, but also with a threadbare defence missing several first-team names.
“It starts from a way out. You’re thinking about how you’re watching Leeds and how they play,” he said.
“I watched closely the game against Aston Villa and two of their other games, but in particular the Aston villa game and see how they play.
“They want to really attack the game. They play with wingers who stretch the pitch. They’ve got great mobility and rotation.
“Of course, ideally, against them, they want a basketball game where it’s up and down the pitch.
“ So, you have to ensure you don’t get involved in that. You’ll be able to play if you have that confidence you can play, but you’ve also got to be able to deny them the space they want.
“Because they play the man-marking game, I actually had experience of that in Scotland because when I was at Celtic, Aberdeen were very strong in the three years I was up there and they played a very similar system where they were really aggressive in the man to man.
“Your spare man is the at the back and that really worked well for us, trying to find the spare man because everybody else is one v one all over the pitch.
“Christian Fuchs, you could see, was the spare man. He stepped out, made a great pass for our first goal and then it was for our third goal where he stepped in with the ball.
“You’d have seen him and James Justin stepping in a lot tonight, so a lot of work goes on with the staff.
“The players obviously have to implement the idea and they’ve done it great tonight.”
