Brendan Rodgers gives honest verdict on Youri Tielemans' future as Arsenal 'open transfer talks'

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted Youri Tielemans is "very happy" at the King Power Stadium.

The 24-year-old midfielder is wanted by Arsenal, according to a recent report from Goal, who claim that the Gunners have opened talks with the Belgium international's entourage about a possible move.

Tielemans has established himself as one of the finest midfield talents in the Premier League since joining Leicester for £40million from AS Monaco in the summer of 2019.

However, with just 18 months remaining on his contract with the Foxes, he is being strongly linked with a move away from the King Power, with Arsenal said to be keen.

Now, Rodgers has issued an update on the Belgium international's future at the club and has insisted he is fully concentrated on the task at hand in Leicester.

"Youri is very happy here," Rodgers said on Thursday afternoon. "He has clearly developed and turned into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

"Clearly with a player with that quality and with the length of contract, he’s always going to be talked about. I can't worry about that.

"I know he is concentrated and very focused. We hope he will sign a new contract. He is a brilliant professional."

What has Tielemans said?

Arsenal are not the only club reportedly interested in Tielemans, with several outlets claiming Liverpool and Manchester United are keen on the midfielder.

When speaking about his future back in September, Tielemans admitted he was "open to everything".

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Foxes star said: "There is no update, really. I am open to everything. The (summer) transfer market has just closed, but I want to keep as many options as I can open.

"As long as I am here, I will give everything for the club. I have already done so, but I will do so even more.

"The contract situation is just something that is going on in football, it is a normal situation. There are talks going on - I am not saying I am going to sign, I am not saying I am not going to sign. We will see."

Arsenal are also interested in signing Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo before January 31, football.london understands, with a loan deal the most likely option.
