Brendan Rodgers fires warning to Liverpool ahead of top of the table clash

Brendan Rodgers has urged Leicester to prove their “true” ability when Liverpool visit on Boxing Day

Rodgers is picking up the Foxes from their first defeat in 12 matches after they were outclassed at champions Manchester City.

Leicester went infront through Jamie Vardy before they were then blown away in a 3-1 loss at the Etihad.

It ended a red-hot run of form after 10 wins in 11 games which had lifted them to second and taken them into the League Cup semi-finals.

Next up are runaway unbeaten league leaders Liverpool fresh from adding the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar to their Champions League crown.

But Rodgers is pleased to be back at the King Power Stadium , where Leicester are unbeaten this season as he plots a special season.

The ex-Kop boss assessed: “We recognise it is another difficult game for us however we are at home and we want to bring our true game.

“We were playing against a team in Manchester City who are one of the super clubs now in European football.

“When they play to that level it is very difficult for any team. For us to have a chance we have to be at our very best and we weren’t quite at that.

“But Liverpool next is another great measure for us and great test. Congratulations to them, they will come back on a real high.

“But we are playing at home so the intensity of the crowd can help us as well.

“Make no mistake my players have been absolutely brilliant until this point.

“If you’d told me in August, we would be second in the league and in a League Cup semi-final, I’d have been absolutely ecstatic.

“Then to have played how we’ve played, in that style, of course, that makes me very proud of the team and their development.

“But it’s only the first part of the season, we now have to push on in the second part and get better in all aspects of the game.”

Rodgers hopes Harvey Barnes, who was subbed at City with an ankle injury, could be available on Boxing Day if he trains today.
