Brendan Rodgers fires warning to Celtic board over transfers as he backs Neil Lennon for job

Brendan Rodgers has told the Celtic board to make Neil Lennon their new permanent manager.

The former Parkhead boss, who stunned Hoops fans when he left for Leicester City in February, insists Lennon is the 'perfect' choice to replace him.

And on the eve of today's Old Firm clash against Rangers at Ibrox, Rodgers implored the Celtic hierarchy to back the Northern Irishman this summer.

Lennon's future at the club remains unclear despite steadying the ship after Rodgers' controversial exit and leading the team to the Premiership title.

He could secure a historic triple Treble if they win the Scottish Cup Final later this month.

Rodgers insists Celtic won't be short of applicants for the manager's job – but is convinced that no-one will understand the role better than Lennon.

He said: “Neil's perfect for the job. He understands Celtic and the pressures involved there.

“The club will have many applications because it's an amazing club. People will want to go and work there.

“But not many will understand the expectations of Celtic, especially going for the ninth title next year. Neil gets that fully.

“We're both attacking coaches but we have different styles.

“So come the end of the season, it'll be important that he's allowed to get his style of player in to suit his attacking philosophy.

“Then he can then continue and take it on from there.”
