Brendan Rodgers explains why he's not expecting Liverpool to strip Man City of Premier League title

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is not expecting to be gifted a Premier League winners medal amid speculation Manchester City could be stripped of their 2014 title.

The now Leicester boss was in charge at Anfield when the Reds went agonisingly close to winning the league in 2014, only for Manuel Pellegrini's side to claim victory.

Speculation has been mounting in the national media that City could lose their 2014 title after UEFA found them guilty of financial fair play breaches between 2012 and 2016 before banning them from European competition for two seasons.

The Manchester club have appealed against the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but if it is upheld the Premier League could also investigate their past dealings in that time period.

Rodgers said: “It's gone. What will be, will be, but it won't change anything for me.

“I'm not sure what can come of it but as for the title thing, I can't see it. Juventus lost their title (2004-05) but the team that finished second didn't get it. It's gone.

“It's a situation where nothing changes in terms of my feeling of what happened that season. We were up against a fantastic City team and just fell short.”
