Brendan Rodgers explains his Jamie Vardy decision amid injury update ahead of Chelsea clash

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is not yet 100 per cent fit, ahead of a Premier League clash with Chelsea this weekend.

The Foxes striker has been named on the bench for Leicester's Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Aston Villa this evening, having been considered a doubt for the game with a muscle injury.

Vardy went off injured during Leicester's 4-1 win against West Ham last week and missed the Foxes' FA Cup fourth round tie against Brentford at the weekend, with Rodgers confirming he had felt a "twinge in his glute."

Rodgers had, however, said that Vardy was likely to be included in the squad for the game against Villa, despite admitting that he was only 80 per cent fit.

And speaking ahead of the game at Villa Park, Rodgers has explained his decision to name Vardy on the bench.

“He has obviously trained the last few days," Rodgers told Sky Sports.

“He is not 100 per cent, but we feel that he can make an impact from the bench if we need him.

“We didn’t want to risk it from the start, especially when we have Kels [Kelechi Iheanacho], who has been in great form.

“He [Vardy] is a great weapon for us though to come into the game.”

After the cup clash at Villa Park, Leicester welcome Chelsea to the King Power Stadium on Saturday as third faces fourth in the Premier League.
