Brendan Rodgers drops Leicester City contract hint that will delight Arsenal fans

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has provided a curious answer over a potential clause in his contract amid links with taking over at Arsenal.

The Gunners parted ways with Unai Emery on Friday and installed Freddie Ljungberg as their interim boss, with the club drawing 2-2 at struggling Norwich City this afternoon (Sunday).

The likes of Rodgers, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, Man City assistant Mikel Arteta and Wolves' manager Nuno Espirito Santo have all been linked with joining Arsenal.

For Rodgers though it would be somewhat of a surprise considering he only joined Leicester from Celtic in February.

He has impressed so far at the Foxes, with the club second in the Premier League and eight points behind leaders Liverpool after a dramatic 2-1 win at home to Everton this afternoon.

Rodgers was asked post-match about whether there is a stipulation in his contract which would allow him to leave for a bigger club and his reaction was interesting to say the least for Arsenal and Leicester fans.

"Listen, there probably is (a clause) in most manager’s contracts," Rodgers told Sky Sports.

"It is all hypothetical, with these types of situations.

“I think the best thing for me at the moment, we have had a brilliant win today [against Everton] and we came back really well.

“My focus is on Leicester. I made a change eight or nine months ago and I came here, and I’ve been so happy to work with these players here, but we still have a lot of work to do.

“Most managers contracts will have something in that, but for me, my only concentration is on Leicester."

And the former Liverpool manager reiterated that point when he spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live, adding that he was excited about the challenge ahead of him at the King Power Stadium.

“The club has been first class, we have a project that is exciting, and my focus is here at Leicester," he said.

"This is a huge challenge to try and break into the top six, we have got more work to do and I am excited by that.”
