Brendan Rodgers doubles down on Leicester’s James Maddison transfer stance amid Arsenal links

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has reaffirmed his stance on the future of midfielder James Maddison after his links to Arsenal.

The 24-year-old has been consistently linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium throughout the summer and football.london understands that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a big admirer, although a move looks unlikely at this stage.

That has not halted constant speculation over his future though. Following Leicester’s 3-3 draw with Queens Park Rangers, Foxes boss Rodgers admitted that he is not looking to lose any of his key players in the current window - including Maddison.

He said: "In conversations with the club, we don’t have to sell. That’s something that’s been made clear.

"The players want to stay. It's a really exciting time at the club.

"There’s lots of gossip and speculation around but I’m loving working with the guys here, they love being here, and we certainly have no need to sell. So I would suspect we’re looking to keep our best players."

The comments from Rodgers come after he made a near-identical statement earlier this weekend concerning Maddison's future - who missed the game at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium due to the birth of his baby son.

"We have no plans to lose anyone," he told talkSPORT.

"We're keen not to lose anyone."

Leicester’s current stance is a stark difference to the opinion that the club has held for the past few seasons having lost a key player each summer.

The likes of N’Golo Kante, Danny Drinkwater, Riyad Mahrez, Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell have all departed for pastures new in recent summer transfer windows.

Maddison currently still has three years remaining on his current contract at the King Power Stadium having only penned fresh terms with the club last year.
