Brendan Rodgers doesn't want to lose £40m-rated star to Tottenham or Man Utd

Brendan Rodgers is urging Leicester to wrap up a £40million deal for Belgian international midfielder Youri Tielemans - before someone else does.

The 21-year-old has proved a big hit with the Foxes and is already on the radar of a number of top clubs including Tottenham and Manchester United.

Rodgers is concerned that Leicester could miss out if they let the player slip out of their grasp while they are in prime position to land him from Monaco.

Tielemans is receptive to making the move permanent and the one big bargaining tool they have is Adrien Silva, who went to the French club in a loan ‘swap’ deal.

Silva failed to make any impression at the King Power but has emerged as one of the main players with Monaco.

Brendan Rodgers insists £19million defender Caglar Soyuncu still has Leicester future

Though Monaco will clearly try to put a vastly reduced value on him, it does give Leicester bargaining power to get the deal through if all parties can agree.

Tielemans has said he enjoys Rodgers’ playing style at the King Power but has been keeping his cards close to his chest

Tielemans said: “I’ll be back this summer and we’ll see. I am open to everything. For Monaco, but also for Leicester or another team.”

Rodgers has meanwhile been linked with a move for Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge.

The Sun say a deal could be happening in June with the England striker out of contract this summer.

“It is difficult of course when you have someone of a top level to then bring in someone of that top level,” the former Reds boss said in midweek.

“One, because they are hard to find and, two, because they want to play.

“I always think it is about two things, affordability and availability. The club will look and see where we are at the end of the season.”
