Brendan Rodgers details Celtic European ambitions as he makes 'success' claim

Brendan Rodgers has detailed his European ambitions for Celtic ahead of the Parkhead side's Champions League opener against Feyenoord.

The Northern Irishman has opened up on what success looks like for the Scottish champions at Europe's top table and he is targeting still competing on the continent in some form after Christmas.

Celtic are also in a group with Atletico Madrid and Lazio, which Rodgers acknowledges will be challenging for his side.

He said: "Playing any team at this level is obviously very difficult. Feyenoord, being Dutch champions, they have a great history in this country of producing teams and players.

"We know the challenge, but we're looking forward to it. It's the first game of six, let's see where it takes us.

"Success for us is to be in Europe after Christmas. That's what our aim is, whatever competition that is in, that is our aim.

"But anything is possible and we want to be competitive in all the games."

Meanwhile, Nat Phillips trained with Celtic ahead of their Champions League fixture against Feyenoord.

The Parkhead club take on Arne Slot's side on matchday one of the group stage and the Liverpool loanee looks to be in contention for the opener.

He picked up a knock just before half time during the 3-0 victory over Dundee at the weekend.

Rodgers said after the game: "Towards the end of the first half he rolled his ankle. He was going to play 60 minutes but it was just precautionary and he should be fine.”

Phillips is on the books of the Scottish champions until January after joining on a six-month loan at the end of the summer transfer window.
