Brendan Rodgers confirms transfer stance on Chelsea target Ben Chilwell amid Ryan Bertrand links

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has ruled out signing a new left-back in the January transfer window, amid links to former Chelsea man Ryan Bertrand.

Reports in the Daily Mail claimed that the Foxes were lining up a move for the Southampton full-back in order to replace Ben Chilwell, who is a target for Chelsea.

The report claims that Frank Lampard will make a summer move for Chilwell after prioritising a move for the striker during the January window, with Leicester turning to Bertrand in order to prepare for the England international's exit.

However, speaking in his pre-match press conference, Rodgers has poured cold water on the suggestion by insisting that it is not a position of his squad that he needs to add to.

Frank Lampard on creating a gap between Man United and Chelsea

"Ryan’s a player I know very well,” he said, as reported by LeicestershireLive. "We took him into Chelsea at 16 and he’s had a brilliant career.

"But we’ve got England’s number one left-back, we’ve got a fantastic senior professional here in Christian Fuchs, and we have James Justin who can play left-back as well.

“At this moment in time, it’s not a position we would be looking at.”

Leicester have also been linked with a move for Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw.

Chilwell broke into the international team in September and has since become a leading contender for the left-back role in Gareth Southgate's squad ahead of Euro 2020.
