Brendan Rodgers confirms decision on Arsenal job after previously hinting at a contract clause

Brendan Rodgers has reiterated that he is happy at Leicester despite the repeated links with the vacant Arsenal job.

The Foxes manager is enjoying a stunning first full season at the King Power Stadium, leading his side to second in the Premier League and an unlikely title challenge.

His success has seen the former Celtic and Liverpool boss linked with the vacancy at the Emirates, and speaking after his side's last-gasp 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday, Rodgers admitted there was likely to be a release clause in his contract.

But speaking at a press conference ahead of Leicester's clash against Watford, Rodgers repeated his desire to stay put despite the links to Arsenal: "What I will say is that I have a contract here until 2022, the club haven’t indicated to me that they’re going to sack me.

"I’m very happy and I don’t need to look elsewhere.

"Why would I want to leave Leicester City at this moment in time? I’m working with a group of talented players.

"I spoke about contract but I was directly responding to a question.

"There will always be speculation around jobs. I repeat: I’m happy here. I want to continue with that. Take from that what you want."

He also added: "It’s all about happiness.

"Knowing the potential we have here to grow here. That gives me happiness. Why would I want to give that up?"

According to  The Athletic , Arsenal have already made "tentative enquiries" for Rodgers' services in the wake of Unai Emery's sacking, but that was met with a clear message that he will not be leaving in the middle of the season.

The report claims Rodgers was considered by the Gunners before they appointed Unai Emery in 2018 but rejected the chance to interview him for the post.

They claim that the Gunners' hierarchy had doubts over Rodgers' personality and stature as they looked to replace Wenger.
