Brendan Rodgers confirms coronavirus symptoms in Leicester squad to spark Chelsea FA Cup concern

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that an unspecified number of Leicester City players have shown coronavirus symptoms and have been tested, placing the continuation of Premier League games into serious doubt.

It is not clear how many players have shown signs that they have been infected with Covid-19 but Leicester have said that the players have been kept away from the squad since the symptoms were first shown.

Leicester are due to face Chelsea in their FA Cup quarter-final at the King Power Stadium next Saturday, while Rodgers said that they are continuing to prepare for this weekend's game away to Watford.

If the tests return positive that fixture, and potentially the rest of this weekend's games, will be called off.

"We've had a few players that have shown symptoms and signs," Rodgers said. "We’ve followed procedures and (as a precaution) they have been kept away from the squad.

"Of course, from a football perspective, it would be a shame [if games are behind closed doors or postponed], but the public’s health is the most important aspect in all of this."

He added: "Working in football, it’s about having that agility to move with what’s happening in football. We’re guided by football and federations. We have to press on with our work and prepare as normal."

The East Midlands side played Aston Villa on Monday night. Villa host Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Premier League clubs have been advising that it is business as usual until the government change their current advice. Prime minister Boris Johnson has been holding a Cobra meeting today and is expected to provide an update this afternoon.
