Brendan Rodgers Celtic Odsonne Edouard admission as Leicester boss touches on transfer talk

Former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says he is well aware of the talent The Hoops possess in Odsonne Edouard, but refused to confirm whether the forward is among his transfer targets this month.

The Leicester City manager admitted it would be a lean January for incomings at the King Power Stadium, with The Foxes unlikely to make any major moves in light of the current financial challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Rodgers brought Edouard to Parkhead from Paris Saint Germain in 2017 on an initial loan deal, signing him permanently for a club record fee a year later.

The Frenchman's goalscoring run of 74 in 151 games has attracted the interest of AC Milan and Juventus, according to recent reports.

And while Rodgers refused to be drawn on the speculation linking him with a move for his former star, he conceded he would continue keeping tabs on his progress.

“There are lots of names linked with coming here,” Rodgers told his press conference ahead of Leicester's clash with Southampton.

“I know Odsonne because I signed him for Celtic when he was there, so I know the level of player Celtic have.

“I’ve said before that there won’t be a great deal of business going on here. Economically it’s tough for us. Also, it’s about the availability of players as well.

“Over the course of the coming weeks, if there’s anything we think can help improve us and if it can be done, I’m sure the club will do everything they possibly can.”
