Brendan Rodgers Celtic 'massive start' importance outlined by ex-Rangers star and pundit Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton reckons a 'massive start' by Brendan Rodgers will have the Celtic faithful all back on side.

The former Hoops gaffer is back for a second stint in charge after the Scottish champions made a big play to bring him on board following Ange Postecoglou's exit for Tottenham in the English Premier League. The manner of his mid-season exit in 2019 is still a source of anger for a number of fans with the Green Brigade making their feelings known after his appointment was announced by re sharing an image of a banner they previously displayed.

His first stint proved successful on the trophy and domination front and he has eyes on similar this time around but also making a splash on the European stage. Celtic enter the Champions League group stage and former Rangers defender and pundit Hutton reckons a couple of quality signings and good start at Europe's top table and in the league and all will be forgotten. But a slow start could be a 'problem'.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think most of it will be forgotten. In the back of Celtic minds they still remember him leaving to go to what they saw as a lesser team.

“The draw of the Premier League is massive and he went down there won the FA Cup, two fifth place finishes so he did a decent job.

“I think if he brings in one or two quality signings, he does well in the Champions League, gets them through the group stages, the first Old Firm is a massive thing. It will be forgotten if he goes in and has a massive start.

"If it starts slow and they do not have a good start to the Champions League then that could turn into a problem.“
