Brendan Rodgers Celtic exit revisited as Jamie Carragher puts Leicester boss on the spot with 'vindication' question

Brendan Rodgers insists it was his heart ruling his head to leave Celtic after being quizzed by Jamie Carragher.

Despite some criticism over his decision to leave Celtic Park in 2019, Rodgers has built Leicester into a real force in the Premier League.

Leicester are on the verge of the Champions League while also reaching the FA Cup Final where they'll meet Chelsea on May 15.

Following the Foxes win over Crystal Palace, pundit Carragher put the Celtic Invincibles boss on the spot over his decision to leave Scotland during a dominant period back in 2019.

On Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, he asked: "You moved from Celtic to Leicester.

"You had a great record at Celtic but there was a touch of criticism when you moved out to come to to Leicester.

"Do you feel the move has been vindicated by the job you have done and the model Leicester have?"

Rodgers reflected on the decision to walk away with club on the brink of Treble treble success, responding: "I've always said it was such a tough decision for me to leave Celtic, because I was a Celtic supporter growing up.

"What I couldn't do was let my heart rule my head. I felt like I needed a next challenge.

"Celtic is a huge institution in the game and I love every second I was there, but I felt like coming back to a club like Leicester, my challenge here was can we disrupt the top six.

"We knew financially we couldn't compete but I knew that economically the club was very well run, and could we then put a team on the field to perform and be competitive.

"Gradually we have created an identity and a mentality and are looking to challenge."

Rodgers was a perfect seven for seven in Glasgow - landing three Betfred League Cups, two Scottish Cups and two league titles in Scotland before Neil Lennon took over the hot seat.
