Brendan Rodgers blasts VAR as former Celtic boss left frustrated by Leicester penalty decisions

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has slammed the VAR decisions that saw Manchester City get a penalty but not his side.

Leicester were denied a spotkick when Kevin de Bruyne handled in the first half before Dennis Praet was punished for a similar incident in the second half.

Sergio Aguero missed the penalty but Rodgers was still frustrated by the lack of consistency that allowed Man City the opportunity to open the scoring.

The former Celtic boss believes it's the second or third time this season where they have got the wrong end of a poor VAR decision.

He said: "We're disappointed we didn't get a penalty, for me it's so clear. I felt it was the reason VAR was brought in. You put your hands up and you stop it and change the flight of the ball, and it’s going towards the goal and towards the corner and Kevin de Bruyne stops it.

“For me it's a clear penalty but we didn’t get it."

Rodgers had no issues with the penalty awarded to City because Praet did raise his hand and he added: “That’s the rule. He’s obviously gone to block it and his hand’s gone up and it’s a penalty. We accept that, but you hope you get it for yourself as well and we’ve had them a few times now - in the cup semi-final and here - where hands are up and Kevin is blocking his face which is probably a natural reaction but his hands are up.

“You look at every other player and their hands are down, and we still didn’t get it so it’s tough on us.

“Both unnatural. He’s lifted his arms up, if you look at the reaction of the others in the wall their hands are down and you have to be prepared to take it.”
