Brendan Rodgers believes Leicester can finish in top four after Liverpool defeat

Brendan Rodgers believes Leicester are displaying the qualities crucial to a top four challenge.

And after heartbreaking last gasp defeat at Anfield, he strode proudly into the dressing room afterwards to tell his players they passed an important, even if they lost.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insisted after such a spirited display from his opponents: “they will be a challenger for the top four”, and Rodgers thinks that may be possible.

Asked what he said in the dressing room, he replied: “I said you didn’t deserve it, I was proud like I said, proud of their personality that they showed.

“I know this stadium as well as anyone and the momentum that can carry this team and the support is absolutely amazing but we were able to get over that and deal with the pressure and come through it and eventually get level in the game.

“In order to develop as a team we have to be able to cope with that and I thought we coped well with it. Of course we were just disappointed we didn’t take something from the game, but we deserved it.”

Rodgers knows that if Leicester are to challenge for the top four, they have to find a way of competing with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City , and he saw a team who could do that at Anfield.

“We showed our personality. We’re trying to grow and develop a way of playing that is similar to a big team,” he explained.

“Of course, we don’t have the resources that goes with it but we can still impose our way of working.

“The big thing is having personality and even though we lost the game, to come and play with that personality and to run the team so close is so good for us in our progress.”
