Brendan Rodgers answers Michel-Ange Balikwisha Celtic transfer question directly

Brendan Rodgers was coy on whether Celtic are making a move for Michel-Ange Balikwisha before the deadline.

The Royal Antwerp winger has been constantly mentioned as a target for the Parkhead club and has been on the radar for over a year.

With time running out in the current window, Rodgers is in need of attacking reinforcements.

Irked over the slow progress on that front, Celtic fans again vented their frustrations towards the board during today's win over Livingston. The Green Brigade took aim with a banner and there were chants of 'Sack the board'.

Post-match, the manager was asked whether there was any truth in talk of club chiefs being over in Belgium to complete a deal for Balikwisha.

He responded: "Well, I think the delegation was at this game were they not? I don't know who else would talk contract talks.

"There's a number of players that we've been at for a number of months. So we'll see over the next 48 hours what that looks like."

Rodgers had made eight changes to his team for today's game with some injured and others rested ahead of the trek to Kazakhstan for the second leg of the Champions League play-off.

Defender Auston Trusty and striker Adam Idah are two of those struggling and face a race against time to be ready to face Kairat Almaty.

Rodgers added: "I'm not sure if Auston Trusty will make it. Adam Idah, we'll wait and see. But hopefully he'll be available for the squad."

Despite all the changes there was still no place for Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, a loan signing from Manchester City. Rodgers says it will take time for the centre back to get up to speed.

"No. No, he's just not in the squad," said the Northern Irishman. "He's come in as a talent.

"Really the first part of the season was to get him through until the international break, used to how we'd be working because he's coming from training with a group of players, he's played no minutes at all over the pre-season, so he's not ready. But we're keeping an eye on him and hopefully after the international break, he can make some sort of impact, but that would be up to him. But he's a talent."
