Brendan Rodgers' advice to Leicester players amid Granit Xhaka incident with Arsenal fans

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has spoken on the pressures social media bring to modern football following Granit Xhaka's statement on the events against Crystal Palace.

Xhaka highlighted abusive comments both on social media and at stadiums as to why he reacted in the manner that he did when fans booed him against Palace.

Unai Emery has confirmed the 27-year-old will not start for Arsenal when they host Wolves at the Emirates this weekend.

"What happened with Xhaka was a build of pressure. A culmination," Rodgers said to Leicestershire Live.

"A lot of work goes on within the clubs to further social media education because it’s so prevalent. You’re always trying to help players deal with pressure.

"Whether he plays good or bad, he always looks like he gives us all. I don’t know a great deal about it, I’ve never been on it, but there’s a lot of noise. You’re trying to get players to avoid the negative stuff."

After taking time to reflect on his actions, Xhaka released a lengthy statement of apology four days after the incident.

He has trained throughout the week but did not travel to Anfield in Arsenal's Carabao Cup loss to Liverpool and won't feature against Wolves.

In his pre-match press conference, Emery didn't give a time period for when the club captain may return.

"The first is the person. The human, like everyone, feels. Xhaka’s issues last week is one issue that needs time. He needs time to recover the normality in him." said Emery.
