Brendan Rodgers admits frustration at one element of Sebastian Tounekti transfer

Brendan Rodgers admits to being disappointed at not getting Sebastian Tounekti in time for Celtic's Champions League play-off against Kairat Almaty.

The Parkhead club had a questionable transfer window and that has led to protests from fans, which contonued at today's cup win over Partick Thistle.

They faced the Kazakhstani side in Champions League qualifying before the closure of the window and had failed to complete their business before then, therefore missing much-needed firepower as they crashed out on penalties after failing to score across two legs.

Tounekti was one of the players signed following that and before the window closed. The Tunisian winger has impressed since his move from Hammarby and was on form again today, getting on the scoresheet.

Rodgers raved about post-match.

"He's so good," he told Premier Sports. "He's got a bit of everything really. He can beat a man, he can run without the ball, can go either way. He can slip the runners in as well and and it's nice for him to get his goals.

"It's one of the things I said when he came in, he needs to improve his goals. A bit like Nicolas Kuhn and these guys, they they need to get into areas and and be really hungry to score.

"He took it well. It was really good, lovely touch behind. He links the game well and yeah, it was a good finish."

Asked if that made him frustrated to not have the 23-year-old available for Kairat, he added: "Well, I think we all have seen that and I think everyone understands that, the board, us, everyone. But you can't look back, we have to look forward and learn from that."
