Brendan O'Carroll reveals Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas 'spoilers' with 'murder mystery'

Brendan O'Carroll has revealed some details about the highly-anticipated Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas special.

The comedy is an annual ratings winner for RTE and the BBC with this year's string of shows expected to be no different.

Creator and star Brendan O'Carroll has hinted at some of the storylines coming this year as excitement builds.

Brendan told the Sunday World: "For Christmas Day it’s all about the shortage of Christmas trees. Looks like Agnes will not have a tree, but up steps Buster Brady.

“Agnes has joined the church choir but there’s a catch – Fr McBride has made it clear there’s to be no singing and no dancing.

“There’s also a murder mystery in Foley’s in aid of alcoholic greyhounds."

The Irishman added that the New Year's special will see grandad's brother Mickey get out of prison and he's on the hunt for cash to invest in a gold mine.

Here's everything we know so far about the show this year.

When is the Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas special 2021 on TV?

It has been announced that one of the festive episodes will air on BBC One and on RTE on Christmas Day and again on New Year’s Eve at 10.20pm. The second Mrs Brown's Boys special is likely to be on New Year's Day.

Writer and lead actor Brendan O'Carroll has also confirmed that the first of the two specials has already been recorded and that rehearsals were underway for the second.

What will happen on the Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas special 2021?

A teaser for the Christmas special has introduced a new relative who will appear across the two special episodes.

The new character Mikey is set to cause some trouble in the family as they try to warn Granddad (Dermot O’Neill) of the new shady relative's bad intentions.

The first episode titled Mammy’s Mechanical Merriment, will see Agnes Brown ( Brendan O’Carroll ) become a new member of the church choir in Finglas.

Elsewhere, Buster (Danny O’Carroll) is forced to get creative due to a Christmas tree shortage while Dermot hosts a Murder Mystery night in aid of alcoholic greyhounds.

Creator Brendan also appeared alongside Jennifer Gibney on This Morning to tease the New Year's special

Speaking of the plot, Brendan explained: ''They all thought he (Mikey) was in prison for life, he's a conman; but he gets out of prison and he's coming over from Liverpool to see Grandad."

He added that Mikey is actually there to con Granddad out of five grand and that Agnes does her best during the episode to try and stop him.
