Brendan Grace's final performance to air in new film

Beloved Irish entertainer Brendan Grace passed away in July, but fans will get a chance to enjoy his comedic talent one more time in his final film performance.

The popular star appears in Tradition, a new film about a GAA referee who goes missing after making a controversial decision.

Brendan plays a local priest who is called to court to provide a character reference for the ref.

Director Damian O’Callaghan described Brendan as a "genius at work" and said he had the crew in stitches during filming.

He told the Irish Sun : "It was a joy putting Brendan into the dock of a real court in Killarney. He stole the show talking to the judge."

Damien added that he visited the Fr Ted in Galway just days before he passed away from lung cancer aged 68.

"It was a private visit as a friend. I feel fortunate to have known and worked with such a naturally gifted entertainer who was also a superb actor.

"I was on my way to the Galway Film Fleadh so Brendan dying later that week made it very emotional."

Brendan Grace’s wife Eileen, daughter Amanda, son-in-law Frank and grandson James, 11, were on hand to unveil the photo in the Shannon Airport gallery as they closed out on one of Grace’s wishes ahead of his much-mourned passing in July (Arthur Ellis)

Tradition is expected to be screened by RTÉ this year and also be an Aer Lingus inflight movie.

Brendan’s widow Eileen was one of the guests at the Lighthouse Cinema this week at the premier of the quirky comedy.
